Morning Keyboard

Morning rises in a pale hush,
lifting the edges of the room.
Colours wake, streaking the skyline.

I sit by the window,
letting first light
settle across my hands.

Birds offer brief, uncertain notes.
Testing the day’s shape.

Kangaroos hurry past,
bounding steady and unannounced.
Inviting me to begin.

I welcome the unfolding

…and begin typing
