Circle Island Tour – Day 10, Hawaii Five-O

Today we went on the ‘Circle Island Tour’ to see the highlights of O’ahu.

The tour included stops at Diamond Head, Kahala, Hanauma Bay and blowhole, Waimanalo village, Nu’uanu Pali Lookout, Byodo-In Temple, Kualoa Ranch, Hawaiin Farms Macadamia Farm, North Shore, including Sunset Beach and Haleiwa, before finishing up with a stop at the Dole plantation and partaking in a refreshing Dole whip. Delish!

My favourite photo today is a stunning panorama of Hanauma Bay…

Ala Moana Shopping Centre – Day 9, Hawaii Five-O

Since our hotel offered a free shuttle bus to and from this world renowned shopping centre, we spent most of the day engaging in more retail therapy. Luckily we were just in time for a free hula show at 1pm!

After a quick power nap we headed down to watch the sunset over Waikiki.

My favourite photo today is this time lapse photo of it…

Goodbye Maui, Hello O’ahu – Day 8, Hawaii Five-O

We left Maui this morning, and made our way to O’ahu. Although a complete contrast to Kihei where we’ve been staying, I do enjoy the busy-ness and bustling tourist feel of Waikiki – which also provides some great people watching opportunities!

We settled into our hotel, located in the heart of Waikiki. I had a relaxing swim and wander along the promenade before watching yet another a beautiful sunset…only to be greeted soon thereafter with torrential rain!

My favourite picture from today is a wet Waikiki at night…

Hawaii Five-O

This summer break, I am heading back to Hawaii for a holiday. Only six more sleeps and I will be setting off on a twelve day adventure to Maui and Oahu, with a dear friend!

During this time, I anticipate I will have limited wifi availability, as well as time, to participate in my regular challenges and will not be posting as often.

So, I am setting myself a mini writing challenge for each day while I am away: “To write 50 words about the day’s activities and upload my favourite photo, capturing this”.

I look forward to sharing my holiday with you in the coming weeks…stay tuned.

Pillbox

“Unlike many pillboxes in Hawaii, the Lanikai pillboxes are very intact. The first pillbox is absolutely covered in graffiti.  It is relatively easy to climb on the first pillbox’s roof for a unique perspective on the area. Also, you can climb inside the pillbox, either with the ladder from the roof, or by squeezing through the viewing slit. The inside is just as decorated as the outside and the graffiti’d cement block walls juxtapose with the beautiful scenery visible through the slit.

The second pillbox is only about an additional five minutes along the trail. You can clearly see it from the first pillbox, and the trail between the two is easy to hike. The second pillbox is a double pillbox with two separate sections. Just like the first pillbox, you can climb down inside. While the second pillbox does have graffiti, it is nowhere near as colorful as the first. The second pillbox is basically at the end of the ridge and offers fantastic views of the ocean, on one side, and the mountains, on the other.”
