No Beauty

As consciousness sinks,
and subconscience reigns supreme,
the terror begins.

There’s no beauty in my dreams.
One day I fear I won’t wake.

Il Colosseo

Surrounded by crowds,
valiant gladiators
fight until the death.

All that remains, a whisper;
ancient Roman history.

Author’s note: ‘Il Colosseo’ is the Italian name for the Colosseum (or Coliseum). It is also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre and is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and sand, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. It is situated just east of the Roman Forum.

No More

Her only comfort,
as the rain falls around her,
– a canopy’s space.

She dreams of a time to come,
when the tears will flow no more.

Seventy-Five Years

Holding his lady.
Married seventy-five years.
On deathbed he lies,
vows honored until the end.
A portrait of love, endures.

Author’s note:  This piece is dedicated to my nanna, 95 years old, and my grandfather “Bill” who passed away in June 2015. They had a truly remarkable and inspiring love; married more than 75 years! I can’t even imagine the bond they shared. Nanna claims he still visits her every night in her dreams, asking her when she will join him 💜💙💚

since his death she spent
the days strolling archways of
their favourite park

never realising he was
walking peacefully with her
